the clicky noise that the ‘ct’ at the end of the word - kind of like the sound when you hang up the phone.
Not a mobile phone, but a legit phone. Like a landline - not one of those cordless types, a real one, with the pedal-like bit under the earpiece that you depress when you want to hang up. The metallic noise and then silence for a moment before the repetitive eeeeeeeeennnnnh eeeeeeeeeeeennnh eeeeeenhh starts up to tell you the conversation is over. The cessation of a connection. The aural barrier between you and the person who may or may not still be at the other end of the phone line, listening to the same beeps. Actually, interestingly, there isn’t even a physical connection between you and the person at the other end of the phone nowadays. It’s all radiowaves - the transfer of energy and information without the transfer of matter.
Disconnect. The absence of a physical connection.
